The Osteopathic Profession is regulated by statue under the Osteopaths Act 1993. Osteopaths undertake an intensive 4 to 5 years Degree Course.
Since May 2000, following the 1993 Osteopaths Act, anyone calling themself an Osteopath must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council in order to practice.
The highly developed diagnostic techniques employed by osteopaths allow them to determine conditions that require a quick referral. This enables Osteopaths to assume the role of Primary Care Physicians.
